Floors for Lake Life

Epoxy flooring in Cumming frequently comes down to boats. Lake Lanier draws more than 10 million visitors a year, and about 30% of the lake lies in Forsyth County, where Cumming is the county seat. With 692 miles of shoreline, plenty of homes here have a boat, pontoon or jet ski stored in the garage for part of the year. Those vehicles bring water, fuel and heavy trailers onto the floor.

Building a floor for boat storage

A boat garage has different needs from a car garage:

Trailer jacks concentrate weight. We add extra build and suggest a jack pad.
Bilge and hull water drips for hours. A sealed, textured finish keeps it on the surface and safe to walk on.
Fuel and oil from outboards and jet skis need a chemical-resistant topcoat.
Long trailers may mean a deeper bay. We coat the full length and the stem walls.

Winterizing and storage

Many owners pull boats from the lake for winter and do maintenance in the garage. Antifreeze, oil changes and cleaners all end up on the floor. A coated surface keeps those from soaking in, and a light color helps you spot drips quickly.

Lake levels and lake houses

Lake Lanier's full pool is 1,071 feet, but the level swings. It fell to a record low of 1,050.79 feet in December 2007 during the worst drought in Georgia's recorded history. Homes near the shore can have garages or basements on sloped lots where ground moisture varies with the seasons. We test before coating, even on newer homes.

A small city in a big growth area

Cumming itself had 7,318 residents in 2020, but about 100,000 people in unincorporated areas share a Cumming mailing address. The city's estimated population grew 70.7% from 2020 to 2025. Many homes are new, and new slabs need grinding and time to cure before coating.

Fair season and farm gear

The Cumming Country Fair and Festival is held every October. Rural properties around town also store mowers, tractors and trailers, which call for a tougher, thicker floor system.

Cumming Questions

Can a garage floor handle a pontoon trailer?

Yes. We add extra build where the trailer jack rests and recommend a jack pad. A chemical-resistant topcoat handles fuel and oil drips.

Is a textured finish needed for boat storage?

We recommend it. Water from hulls and bilges can drip for hours, and texture keeps the floor safer to walk on.

Can I do winterizing work on a coated floor?

Yes. A coated floor resists antifreeze, oil and cleaners and makes drips easy to wipe up.

My lake house sits on a slope. Will moisture be an issue?

It might be. We take moisture readings at several points, and the primer is matched to what they show.
