Epoxy Flooring in Duluth, GA

Epoxy flooring in Duluth must work within a climate that ranges from about 41 F in January to 78.3 F in July on average, with humid air through the warm months. Duluth, renamed from Howell's Crossing in 1871 when the railroad arrived, now has around 13,000 housing units. Most of the garages we see here are attached to family homes, and most of the problems we see come down to moisture and prep.

When to coat and when to wait

Concrete is a sponge for humidity. On a warm, muggy day, a shaded garage slab can be cooler than the dew point, and condensation can form without anyone noticing. We measure surface temperature, air temperature and humidity before each coat. If the margin is too thin, we adjust the schedule. That simple check prevents cloudy finishes and weak bonds.

A floor plan for family garages

For a typical two-car garage, our suggestions often include:

• A flake epoxy floor in a blend that hides dust and leaves.
• A polyaspartic topcoat for scratch resistance and color stability near the door.
• Coated stem walls so the color runs a few inches up the sides for a finished look.
• An anti-slip additive if the garage is also the main entry for kids and pets.

Manufacturing and corporate floors

AGCO, the agricultural equipment maker, is based in Duluth, and Primerica, Asbury Automotive Group and Roper Industries are also listed among its companies. Plant floors, parts rooms, service bays and data rooms each need different systems. We recommend thicker builds and chemical-resistant topcoats for shop areas, and seamless, dust-resistant coatings for clean spaces.

Event and arena spaces

Gas South Arena, home of the Atlanta Gladiators and the Georgia Swarm, opened in 2003 near the city. Venues and the restaurants and hotels around them have kitchens, storage areas and back corridors that see heavy carts and frequent mopping. A textured commercial floor is easier to keep safe.

By the river

The Chattahoochee forms Duluth's northern boundary. Homes on lower ground near the river get the same moisture test as everyone else, but we pay extra attention to drainage at the garage door.
